Fr. Damien de Veuster, ss.cc. volunteered to work with the leprosy
patients of Molokai. He died as a patient in 1889. At his
beatification in 1995, he was designated a “Servant of Humanity”.
His canonization will take place on October 11, 2009. The Feast
Day of Fr. Damien of Molokai is May 10th, the day he arrived on the
