|
|
Over the Labor Day weekend, the Fairhaven Portuguese community
celebrated the 71st anniversary of the Feast of Our Lady of the Angels.
Fr. Pat Killilea, ss.cc., pastor, at St. Mary’s in North Fairhaven,
Massachusetts, and Fr. Manny Ferreria
concelebrated Mass on Monday at 10:00 A.M. Across from the church, people enjoyed
traditional food and activities on the feast grounds.
On Monday, the feast day procession took place. Participants
carried St. Mary’s 800 pound statue of Our Lady through the streets. Fr.
Pat said that the celebration began in the 1930’s as a way for
parishioners to give thanks to the Lord for their safe passage from the Azores to the US. |
