Father Tom McElroy, ss.cc., will be assisting at Queen of Peace Parish in Harlingen, Texas, for another week while the pastor, Fr. Alfredo Garcia, ss.cc., is on vacation.  Fr. Tom, who served at Queen of Peace from 1970 to 1975, is still well known among the parishioners and feels at home as he presides over liturgies, celebrates weddings, visits and anoints the sick in hospitals, and provides pastoral counseling. Over the years, he has returned to the Diocese of Brownsville to preach retreats, and so his bond among the faithful remains strong.  When the Congregation was invited to minister in the Rio Grande Valley early in the 1960’s, approximately 800 families helped Fr. Regis Kwiatkowski, ss.cc., the first pastor at Queen of Peace, form the parish community. Today, Fr. Tom said that there are more than 2,000 families.
