Dear Father Gabriel and
Father Tom,
The two
boxes of clothing, toys, candies and canned food arrived after
Christmas that was sent by Bro.
Ross de la Cruz,ss.cc. He told me that you collected these to help
the poor people here in Manila. I
suppose Bro. Ross told you about the families whose shanties were
destroyed by fire. For at least eight
months, these 250 families had lived on a basketball court.
Last
Sunday, with the help of our social worker and a driver from the
local government, I brought the
donations to Towerville, where 100 of the families now live in
semi-finished houses. The people are glad to have
water again (but not yet power); there is also a school for the
children. But the men cannot find
work. So it's very difficult to earn a livelihood.
Sorry,
I forgot the camera but to be honest, I was uncomfortable
photographing adults and children
standing in line to get what is so essential. But people were happy
and thankful even though everyone only
got one item. I gave some of the donations to the poor people who
live near us, especially, the children. Many,
many thanks to you and all the people who gave donations. I am happy
that Bro. Ross, with
all his dedication to his pastoral ministry at St. Joseph’s Parish
in Fairhaven remembered his
poor country people and was able to help us. Thank all the
SS.CC.brothers who gave
him support!
In
SS.CC. Love,
Fr.
Harald Adler, ss.cc.,
